Summer Camp and COVID Cases

As many of you are aware, there have been a small number of positive COVID test results recently reported to us and we have followed the Madison County Health Department protocols in contacting parents and reporting the names of those that met the conditions of being in close contact. That definition is being within 6 feet of the individual for more than 15 minutes that day. If affected, please ensure you inform your child’s school if they will be absent from the start of school.

We still require students to wash their hands regularly and wear their mask while indoors, we play outdoors as much as possible to keep them moving and distanced, we have had outdoor inflatables where they are limited to only 1 minute inside per instance to keep them from spending too much time with others, cleaning is done on an ongoing basis when tables and equipment are used, etc. Furthermore, the church hires a cleaning service to ensure all areas are as clean as reasonably possible.

Of course, nothing is 100% risk-free. As the community tries to get back to some semblance of a normal lifestyle, we see a large percentage of people in local stores, at the county fair, and in workplaces that have decided to engage in society without masks. Our staff cannot control what is brought into our camp environment. We can only make our best attempts to minimize the risk for those that wish to participate. We greatly appreciate the overwhelmingly positive comments and appreciation we’ve received from parents/guardians regarding how this very unusual summer camp has been conducted. What the Kids in Christ team, led by Ms. Shawna, has accomplished this summer is nothing short of remarkable.

Our school latchkey programs will continue to follow the same procedures and guidelines that the Highland Community School District adopts. Kids in Christ staff will stay informed of any changes the school makes as the environment changes.

For any parents/guardians that do not believe we have lived up to your expectations, I am sorry for that. Your participation in any of our programs is a choice, whether that be latchkey or summer camp. If any level of risk, regardless of the best efforts of our staff, is too great, I encourage you to utilize alternative childcare options that might meet your needs and expectations better.

If you haven’t already done so, I welcome you to let the staff know of your appreciation. They could use it. If you have any constructive criticisms you’d like to have a conversation about, please contact me directly at kidsinchrist.bm@gmail.com, phone 314-384-9959.
